SMART data missing

Hi, my oldest ssd (Patriot Inferno) lost all partitions - I wasn't sure what caused it and so I started to poke around. That is when I discovered that the SMART data is completly missing (power ups, power on hours. total reads/writes) - according to the SMART check this is completly new drive + the power ups and the power on hours started from zero and works, but the host read/write count doesn't work. So here is my question - has anyone any idea what could have happend ? I am currently trying to RMA the drive (it has 5 year warranty) and I'm kidna curius.

Is SMART turned off in the BIOS?

no smart is working on my os drive (Crucial MX100) and i also tried isntalling windows on the patriot drive and it worked - the problem now is that i don't really trust it (and i'm not really sure if they will rma it and shiping will cost me arou 40$ which is probably more then the drive is worth)

Asking if you want to try a firmware update

yeah i might try that but it doesn't change the fact that the drive had hundreds power on hours and 10TB+ read/write so the smart counter was working. I last checked it maybe a month ago when I reinstaled it into a laptop as os drive and the smart check was working ...

+10 TB (if write) + 2011's MLC with unknown quality = doesn't sound good... That's going to be a dead SSD

well i'm really interested how will the rma work of i got my money back (patriot has nothing to replace since they don't make ssds anymore) i could by myself another crucial mx100 512gb (how far have we come)

They won't give you money, no one does that on RMA... and in most warranties they say the next thing "If the product can't be repaired, It will be replaced with the same model or similar (if they can't get it, this usually means a new one...)"

You can RMA at retailer's site (if they still give support (here they give you 2 years)), if not contact Patriot

well i wasn't really thinking i could get my money back i just thought it was kinda funny that in 4 years i got drive with 4x the capacity and 2x the speed. i am really interested with what would they replace it and yeah i probably can't use the retailer - i send them a mail but i didn't get a response(well i send it friday afternoon so i don't expect an answer till monday-tuesday) but i don't expect any good news because i bought the drive on 12 December 2010 so it's quite along time ago. but i'll probably ship it anyway.

Um... I don't think retailers support for that amount of time...

You'll probably have to contact with patriot... dunno if you'll have to pay for shipping... At least I didn't have to with all my RMAs (Acer... 3 times bc of the crappy toshiba HDD and 1 bc the fan fell off the axis ._.)

i already contacted patriot support and got my rma number and received information about shiping - i'm to send the drive to netherlands(but i'll try the retailer aswell it can't hurt )

Then it seems it's free if they already gave you the RMA for shipping number

no it's not free they gave some sort of rma id which i should write on the box but i will be paying the shiping
