I just bought 3x 3TB WD reds and want to put them in RAID 5 and I need some help

note: I have an ssd for the OS- this array will be for data storage

OS: windows 8

drives-

120GB hyperX 3k (windows 8)

3x unformated (brand new) WD 3TB reds

motherboard/chipset: gigabyte 990FX-ud3 (FX6350)

The motherboard supports raid 5 But I don't know how to add a hardware raid? Will i have to do a software raid through windows?

Raid done by a controller on the mobo is still hardware raid, just not as fast or robust as a dedicated controller card.

You most likely need to go into the MOBO and switch the controller from AHCI (or even IDE) to RAID. But, before you do that, install the raid management software for your mobo.

Once switched in BIOS, should be able to create array..

If, after changing to RAID, system won't boot, just switch back and should boot and then can trouble shoot.
