Water Cooling GPU or New GPU Upgrade?

My GeForce 670 used to spike above 95 degrees while playing TitanFall. With a change in casing to the Fractal Define R4 and lots of fans and airflow, that's been managed to peak at 89 degrees.

 

My friend tells me that Watercooling will help lower the temps, prevent throttling and even allow for overclocking. Is it worth the investment in Cooling or should I instead use the budget to fund a new GPU?

buy new GPU all the way

 

WC (custom) is only viable if you youre an real enthusiasts with to much money (prety much)

Try saving the 670 (reapply thermal paste, setup custom fan profile, clean the dust etc), if it doesn't solve your issue you should probably sell it and get a new card.

Clean the 670, and try installing new thermal compound. If that doesn't fix it then you might have these two options. 

 

If you want to keep the 670 (which is still a good card, it's basically a 760) then you can get and install an aftermarket cooler. 

 

Otherwise you can get a new GPU that comes with a good cooler out of the box.

not a good upgrade anyway

I don't know what his budget is. I was just recommending a possible upgrade. Yeah it's not that good but if he does end up buying a new GPU and he has ~$300 it wouldn't be a bad choice. It sure as hell beats using one that's burning itself alive.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys!

 

I'll redo the thermal paste with Arctic Silver 5 and see how that works out first. I'll be switching to a High-End 800 series soon enough and I agree that too much messing around with this card isn't going to give me that much more performance anyways.
