I'm going to be upgrading my MB and CPU to an Intel core i5 and giving my moms new PC my current AMD FX 6350,

Below is my PC parts list and I'm asking what is the BEST i5 CPU and MB? The MB needs to be under 150$ and I prefer blue and black theme if possible to match my system, And Asus would be awesome ROG FTW

Parts: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FqJTpg

Edit: Also should I water cool the i5? I plan to not OC for now and Don't really want to spend 100$ for a water cooled heatsink deal.

Will you be overclocking the i5?

System CPU : Ryzen 9 5950 doing whatever PBO lets it. Motherboard : Asus B550 Wifi II RAM 80GB 3600 CL 18 2x 32GB 2x 8GB GPUs Vega 56 & Tesla M40 Corsair 4000D Storage: many and varied small (512GB-1TB) SSD + 5TB WD Green PSU 1000W EVGA GOLD

He prefers a Black/Blue color scheme, and ASUS do none of this anymore.

OT: What the fuck is with motherboard manufacturers and the current Z97 color schemes? It seems like Blue and high end don't go together anymore.

He said "ASUS would be awesome ROG ftw"

There are no blue and black ROG boards so he needs to decide if he prefers an ASUS mobo or a blue and black mobo

Question is why do you need to upgrade your CPU unless you're also upgrading your video card.

Well multiple people have told my CPU is bad, Now weather or not that's true I dunno But I believe that It will help with some games. As for the GPU I am desperately waiting for the 880 Maxwell based GPUs.

It isn't great but by no means is it bad. and it is strong enough for that 750TI

although if your looking to pair it with an 880 I would think it would cause a pretty noticeable bottleneck in any CPU intensive games.

also wanted to ask again do you want/ are you willing to overclock?

So Should I go for an i7 then?

OC- Maybe I don't want to and it scares me but I would be willing yes.

Sorry I was talking about your current processor

the I5 4690 or 4690k would serve you well.

That all depends on how much you are willing to spend. in terms of price to performance you'd be better off going with an i5. If you overclock you won't run into super-nasty bottlenecks with the maxwell GPUs. I'm a sucker for value so I usually stick with AMD but I am especially frugal when it comes to Intel because you are dealing with much more expensive chips. because of that I personally would go with an i5 and clock it to the balls because I'm poor and a confident risk-taker. That said, if you want to play it safe as well as have absolute assurance that you won't have bottlenecks with Maxwell, then you're going to want the beefier i7. I wouldn't say you absolutely have to go 4770K overboard but it is a good idea to at least get at least a decent i7. The i5 on the other hand will be fine with most GPUs right now as far as I know.

Overclocking looks scary and there is a bit of risk involved but if you do everything carefully and properly you will be fine. Things like that are exactly why forums like this exist. If you need help overclocking, you can come here.

Even if he doesn't overclock It shouldn't be a big problem on say a 4690(non K) and he would be able to save money on the chip and the board. Also I donlt think the I7 Will make sense unless games start using 5 or more threads.

The FX-6350 and 6300 are not bad the serve well for your card and newer cards as well Intel is a bit better but unless you're running cards like GTX 780 etc you won't notice a difference. But if you absolutely want to get a new processor and maybe upgrade your card after that the i5 4690k is great.
