Is this worth buying?

Go to solution Solved by Luke,

i need a temp card for my next pc untill i can get either an 880 or an 780ti depends on when the 880 will be released and the performance will be known

i have seen a used gigabyte windforce R9 280x for 160 euros.... or an Asus i guess DirectCUII for the same price (i guess) cause its listed in the thingy for the windforce one that they are selling an asus one as well ....would that be fine?

Don't be afraid of buying used, 90% of everything computer related i've ever purchased has been used. Go with Gigabyte or Asus or any company that bases their warranties off of the serial number (companies like sapphire, powercolor etc require proof of purchase) and go with a 280/280x instead of a 7950/7970 so that way you know that the warranty can't possibly by over since they were not released that long ago.

Also make sure to ask the seller if the fans spin smoothly or make any noise, While mining the fans usually end up dying long before the cards do. Also ask if they have the original packaging because that is required for RMA and ask for a receipt if they have one as well.

Hi i wanted to know if its worth buying a used MSI HD 7970 Lightning for 200euros or should i buy a different new card?

what online retailers do you use in your location?

any Nvidia alternatives? or is this the best bang for your buck in the 200euro price range for a new card?

Yep, the Nvidia alternative is the 760, and the R9 280 outperforms it.

If you wanna go one up on nvidia then 770 it is, but it is 300eur...

what about an used Nvidia GTX 680 for 120euros?

or a used MSI GTX 760 Gaming for 180 (this defeneatly sounds not worth it)?

or a used MSI TF HD 7950 for 120?

Used 680 for 120eur sounds good, but test it properly before you buy it, run some benchmarks test the temps.

ok the 680 was bit worse then 770 in performance right?

and then there is the thing that its a one from Nvidia not other brands like asus or msi.... and that kinda makes me confused :/

The 280x is a rebrand of the 7970 gigahertz edition. You just lose out on true audio with the 7970

so if the 280x is 7970ghz edition then the 280 is a normal 7970? or a 7950?

That's fine, don't worry about that, it will just run a little hotter and louder.

And 770 is a rebranded 680 with higher clocked ram, so 1-2fps difference.

Do not buy that. It's a fake. People on Amazon in the UK are trying to sell "OEM GTX 770" with the exact same picture, for around £100.

To answer your question, if you just need a card for a few months, or are willing to risk it then used 7970/280x's are not a bad call since they are so cheap.

i need a temp card for my next pc untill i can get either an 880 or an 780ti depends on when the 880 will be released and the performance will be known

If you need a card just to get you through till the 800 series launch then you could get away with an ex-miner card most likely. I find ex-miner 280x's sell for around the price of a new 270, or between the 750ti and 760 price. Good for the money, but you're taking a bit of a punt.

May I just ask who "they" is? If it's a person and not a company do they have a feedback rating?

If you decide to get one then get the Windforce :)
