I own a Core i5-2400 (yeah I know...) which I bought when I had no idea what I was doing. :))

Is it possible to OC a non-K series Chip?

Is the OC a noticeable difference?

Also I've never OC'ed anything before.. Cause well yeah non k series chip...

The non "K" series CPU's will OC but not by a huge margin.

I have never OC a non "K" CPU before, but I would say you might be lucky to get a couple of hundred MHz out of it.

Will you see a difference? It depends on what you are doing if it is CPU dependent.

I'm on the mobile version of the site so I dunno how to reply, but I use my PC for Rendering videos at 1080p, photo processing with Lightroom and photoshop and casual Gaming. :)

I love gaming in High graphics but I don't really have the resources for some like a 780. :|

You can probably overclock it. You might notice it depending how much you overclock.

It's probably worth it though if you have adequate cooling.

What do you render in and what gpu do you currently have?

Depending on the motherboard you can get 400mhz on the bins alone. They are what Intel call limited unlocked. Then there's the FSB which I got over 300mhz out of so it does add up...

Have a read of the link I posted above :)

I shoot events and often present using pro producer/ pro presenter. Soooo it also converts high res pictures rendered into video with some transition effects. Nothing huge but it utilizes 100% of the CPU.

As of now I just a MSI 550ti OC Cyclone II. :/

According to Intel, overclocking non-K series CPUs are not recommended.  An unlocked processor does have an unlocked multiplier, while locked CPUs have a locked multiplier. It depends on the CPU, so you could try to overclock it a bit, but I doubt it will be worth it.

Make sure you have adequate cooling if you are attempting to overclock, and ensure you have ran stress tests to verify your overclock.

Well since HASWELL is just around the corner. I might just wait for that and get myself a K series processor and start a water cooling loop in a prodigy.<3

See if you can increase the multi to x36. I'm curious if you actually can. It can't hurt.

Also, you're probably gonna have to delid a haswell chip, if you want to make your water cooling loop worth it.
