My PSU Exploded.

Hello everyone!

 

I'm new to this forum and I thought I'd kick it off with a story. I built my first personal PC almost a week ago, and everything seemed to be going well, until last Friday. As I was playing DayZ Standalone with some chums, I heard a loud POP, coming from underneath my desk, right where my computer, and therefore my PSU was. As I reached down to unplug absolutely everything under my desk, a series of loud pops, similar to the one before went off, uninterrupted. This put a ringing tone in my ears which lasted for hours as I took apart my beloved H.A.L 9000 (see signature) and attempted to sort out RMAs. Luckily EVGA was kind enough to offer me there advanced RMA as my power supply had the XR suffix in their product code. 

 

A lot of people are worried about processors and graphics cards having all the problems, but never forget about your power supply. Also, EVGA rocks.

I was gonna say to never buy bad PSUs but EVGA are one of the best (that very PSU got a 10/10 on JonnyGuru).

EVGA if I recall did recall a bunch of power supplies they were having problems with, hopefully it shouldn't happen again. From what I understand they're pretty good at handling RMA's anyway.

 

I actually expected this thread to be about a Shaw PSU or one of those $60 1200W PSUs, that are like, "85+ standard" :(

I have a Enermax revolution 87+ 850w for almost 3 years and its still kicking. When it does go i got a "Platimax" 1000w backup

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

Glad to see they are sorting it out for you. Why 1300w though? You are only using like 40% of that thing at most seems wasteful.
