Hello! I'm getting close to building my first computer and I would like some help and advice on the parts I have chosen and help choosing a good monitor. I would also like to get the price down to around $1700-1750. The primary purpose of this build will be for gaming, but I may do some video editing in the future.

It would be nice to have it, but it's not necessary

You've gone waaaaaaaay overboard on the PSU for a single R9 290. Unless you want to go CF in the future drop that PSU to 550W. You don't need 750W at all with this build.

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

Even a 500w should work fine, but it shouldn't have any overclocking headroom, so yeah, a 550 or even 600!

With a test system that had a i5 3570k and 16 gigs of RAM in it, the whole system overclocked was pulling 450 Watts with a Sapphire Vapor-X r9 290 (I don't know if it's the same as this card)

Is getting the i7 worth it or should I save money and get an i5?
