Hello, I was wondering what would be a good graphics card choice for 1080P+ video editing/ 3D editing. I have a GTS 450 and that's not cutting it anymore.

System specs:

CPU:---------------FX-8350

Motherboard:---Gigabyte GA-97A-UD3 AM3+

RAM:--------------Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600 MHz

WHY ON EARTH DID YOU CHOOSE A 8350 0.o

On-topic. what's you're budget i can suggest a $5000 gfx card but i think that's a bit out of ur budget

Because he's video editing, even if it's just for gaming, it's still a good processor .

Anyway if you edit on any adobe program , then you'll need Cuda and GPU compute.

If you're editing on any other program then you will gain nothing from the GPU in editing .

Now normally a person would suggest a 600 series card, but not in this case , the 500 series Nvidia cards are way better in GPU compute and program acceleration, so look for a GTX 570, you can get one for a pretty good price right now .

All I use is Adobe. I was looking at a 660 TI however I will definitely look at the 500 series now. I also heard that cards that are 256-bit are better for editing than ones that are 128-bit. Any truth to this? Is the performance gain that much?

Yes both the amount of RAM and the memory interface 256,192 etc is important for productivity workloads like editing .

Hey, I had much the same question as the OP and I was going to start a new topic but now I don't have to, Thanks!

However I use Sony Vegas for video and Adobe Photoshop and lightroom for photo. Would I gain similar befits by using, as you suggested, a 500 series card? or would I be better going for a good Amd card or a 600 series as I most of my workload consists of video with a little bit of photo retouching on the side.

I sometimes use the pen from my wacom tablet to type cuz i'm too lazy to set it down :P

he'd probably also see an advantage from the GTX 260 or the 9800 GTX over fermi because fermi also performed worse in GPGPU tasks like adobe premiere, sony vegas, photoshop, after effects, maya, etc, etc.

correct me if I'm wrong.

from what I've seen in accelerating programs people claim that their older cards, prior to fermi were much more capable.

I recall reading a post from someone saying

i have really bad viewport performance in blender with a 470GTX, more than 1mio polygones are impossible to handle due to the bad performance of the card. my old 9800GTX can handle about 10mio polygones with ease....
