new phone

Mao_Zedong

I found out 10 minutes ago that I can get a smartphone, I assumed I would need to wait another year, but my parents said I can get one now.

I like the moto x, pretty good size, stock android, and nice back texture. The only reason I don't want that is because the moto x+1 is probably coming out soon, and it has the specs I want (5.2" 1080p screen, snapdragon 800). When is the moto X+1 expected to come out, also, what are some other good options? I need something on at&t with a two year contract.

Don't know anything about AT&T, but the LG G2 has a 5.2" 1080p display and a Snapdragon 800

I could just get the lg g3, but I don't like the software and it is a little big, but it is on my list of phones to consider.

If you're into fitness the Nexus 5 is a must for its built in pedometer, saves a ton on battery life as you don't have to fire up the gps every 5 minutes. If you can afford it or wait try to stay away from contracts, you'll be in a whole world of hurt like I'm sure many people on here can attest to. I'm currently on a 1 month rolling contract in the UK which is brilliant, don't know if you have anything like that in the US but I'd look into it when you get time. Whatever you do don't rush into this without seriously thinking about it first. My thinking is if you're waiting for the Moto X+1 you won't be happy when you have that and you're still on contact with it when the Moto X+3 is out and you can't get updates any more...

I will be useing a family plan, as we get a discounted price. when the moto x+3 comes out I will get it or another new phone, its just a two year contract. I don't care about fitness much at all.

nexus 5?

I would get that or the moto x if I wasn't on contract, as they are cheap, but I can't get the nexus 5 on contract so it would cost more.

are you buying the phone up front or subsidized over a 2 year contract?

subsidized, i said that at the end of my first post.

If you want something really high end then might as well get the LG G3 as it's close to stock android as well. HTC One M8 is a good alternative but I suggest avoiding the Galaxy line of phones unless you really want their AMOLED displays.

Yup, I will get an m8 or g3, the s5 was never a phone I even considered, and the x+1 may not come out soon, and I need a phone now.

I have the G2, and I can say from experience that LG's software is some of the worse that I have ever come across on a phone. Once you root the G2 and put a custom ROM on it, the phone is amazing.

The OnePlus is huge, the G3 is smaller than the M8 even though its screen is .5" bigger.

You still get updates with Motorola. They're pretty good about that.

In North America you really don't save much money by choosing to go with a non subsidized plan vs a subsidized plan.
