hey im building my first rig next month and i just wanted to know which graphics card is stronger i planned on getting the 770 evga sc version but then some people have told me the r9 280x outperforms it and it is cheaper than the 770 also has 1 more gig of vram but im stuck because i really wanted the amd but ive been reading alot of people been having problems with the card like flickering/artifacts i know that can happen to any card but i dont really see to many people having problems with that on the 770 so..

i already have the cpu i went with the i5 4670k i havent picked up anything else yet um idk i plan on playing alot of open world games like far cry , gta and racing games

The 770's 2GB of memory will become a bottleneck in the near future. Making it kind of a pointless card to acquire for your first GPU. For that I would go with the 280X. If you go with a reputable manufacturer like Sapphire you can typically avoid the problems most cards have.

I would buy a R9 290 because the price is similar to the price a GTX 770. If you really want all the Nvidia features then I would buy the GTX 770.

The R9 290 costs similarly to the 770, if you can deal with the heat, get that.

Aftermarket R9 290's are usually cool, ~80C.

Doesn't mean there isn't a buttload of heat being kicked into your room (if your exhaust is working right) ;)
