If you have the money, get a 2x4GB RAM kit, it's ok to get 1333 if you have to, and get a new Asus H81. They supposedly allow some overclocking, so that you can do OC in the future, if you get a better cooler.

Is it a monkey? Is it an ape? I don't care, I LOVE'EM!

Yo i have a question does your 760k bottleneck the 280?

yea about a 40% bottleneck or so, its still good enough to play any game at 60fps which with v sync there is no bottleneck but yea, there still is a decent bottleneck on SOME games, most games though its maybe 10-20%

Nice, but why the oveclockable Pentium if you can't overclock on that motherboard? you'd need a z97 board. Also get 8GB of RAM Other than that it's a great build for that budget!

$381.83

I personaly would not go with that pentium because a lot of games/software can get advantage of 4 cores now days.

Friend is runing R9 280 on Athlon II X4 641 which is FM1 platform CPU and in Witcher II he is getting around 30-45 FPS on ultra with ubersampling. I would not say that there is so much of bottleneck. Even less with 760k.

Dont throw numbers on me. I know that pentium is better as long as you need single core performance but overall 4 cores is better. Also there is 750k and not 760k in these graphs. Yes the difference betwen performance is small but so is the difference betwen 760k and pentium. It really depends on what you play. Just look at BF4 that is taking advantage of more cores in these graphs 750k got more juice.

I dont find that pentium appealing as long as you dont go Z97 because then you can at least take upgrade path that makes sense. Going H81 is just throwing money away from my perspective.

No need. I believe you (But I dont think it is 40%). I was not saying that there is no bottleneck at all. I tried to say that even with lesser CPU and very good GPU you can get very enjoyable gaming experience because there is very few games that are CPU heavy. (Games like Arma, Total War, .. etc are exceptions). While upgrading your CPU will help you improve FPS getting better GPU will always make bigger difference.

i agree 120%, GPU upgrades do affect fps more, BUT i wish i would of gotten maybe a 270x and upgrading to a i5 4690k. That would give me a much higher fps for a little more money. Now i just ran my anthlon, im running a slight OC on it and my GPUs max usage is 90% across the board from valley benchmark, Tomb Raider benchmark, Dirt 3 benchmark, but when i benchmark BF4, or tera or hitman, or watchdogs i get 60-70% usage, CPU is nonstop 100% so im getting a bottleneck of around 40% on some games, still around 60fps usually so im fine with it but people who play on a 144 monitor might want more. personally im fine with my buy but i could of did better.

Sure why not. For your needs it is good enough and if you want to save some money along with it then it is good pick.

it all comes down to, are u using threaded programs, if not, do u need 4.5ghz or does it really matter? but thing is i dont even OC my anthlon and im doing fine with fps, pentium u might need a extra cooler but imo pentium would be a better pick if u get a z97 mobo to go with, otherwise for future upgrades, kinda pointless. z97 supports broadwell so its sorta kinda 'future prepping' in a sense

ive made a new Part list, you think its worth buying?

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/dNnPQ7

well, if i were you id look up how ur cpu pairs with ur GPU, somewhere there will be a benchmark test showing how they perform together. then take the games u want and see benchmarks with that GPU. if they both line up, go for the brands you think are decent and will last and buy them. MSI Gigabyte and Asus are the top dogs but Asrock and some smaller companies are as bad anymore but still arent the 'top dogs' also SSD is a huge upgrade, keep that in mind if u can save a little more up

I dont think that he can go with SSD in his budget or look at what GPU he can pair with which CPU. He can just take whatever is best price/performance for his money.. in this case GTX 750 ti with FX 6300 is awesome choice for $400

true but 400$ is a very low budget for gaming, 600$ is even kinda low for max settings
