I'm doing a build for my brother that's budgeted at no more than £450. However I have a 560ti laying about which I intend to use, so this budget doesn't include a graphics card.

This is in the UK, using pc partpicker, 1 1080p monitor, for gaming / college work, no peripherals or anything extra needed.

This is what I've drafted: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/bB6Jgs

I think I went way over kill on the cpu and the closer to 400 The better really, trying to get from as little sites as possible where I can.

Not sure if I should invest more into the power supply and gain a higher efficiency rating, although probably costing the modular interface. Although I guess I don't care that much about other peoples cable management. I know many people preach for higher efficiency rated psu's.

Any improvements suggestions? Going to say again, going to be adding a 560Ti. Obviously I don't intend for it to max the newest of games or anything. Closer to 400 then better. Another edit, Operating system isn't required.

Cheers

No need to get Z97 if you have a non-k processor. No need to get 97 anyway since you have selected a 4570. Either select a 4690k instead or get a 4590 and an H97 motherboard. Devil's canyon is worth taking over Haswell.

Other than that I see nothing wrong with the build. No need to get a 212 Evo for the CPU though. Intel stock coolers are pretty decent and you can't OC that CPU anyway so you won't need an aftermarket one.

If you don't plan to play cpu stressed games then this pentium, with some oc, will be as good as the i5 in games, plus this build has ssd

I very doubt he will be overclocking and without overclocking the G3258 is pretty shite. His original CPU choice isn't really overkill depending on the games he intends to play and what kind of work he intends to do. Do agree with the change in PSU though. 600W is some serious overkill for a 560Ti and an I5.

Why the locked processor and the Z97 motherboard? Go H97 and save some money.

Just looked up prices. The price difference is often minimal and Z97 gives him good futureproofing until Skylake arrives

Just hit that OC Genie button and that should do it, otherwise I think a 4460, while costing more, should do, just don't change the mobo, it's even cheaper than some H97, best budget friendly Z97 mobo, nice job MSI

Never ever just hit a button to AUTOMATICALLY OC for you. 2 of my friends have already lost 2 CPU's because this "OC genie" gimmick overvolted the shit out of them and killed them.
