how exactly does one spend $4k on a gaming computer and not know this stuff...

IT will run poorly, but playable at 1080p and well at 720p.

So here's my suggested shopping list for 1000$:

http://www.microcenter.com/product/429366/H440_ATX_Case_w-_Window_-_Black-Red

http://www.microcenter.com/product/428522/AMD_Radeon_R9_270X_OC_2GB_GDDR5_PCIe_30_Video_Card

http://www.microcenter.com/product/432989/GA-Z97X-Gaming_3_LGA_1150_ATX_Intel_Motherboard

http://www.microcenter.com/product/432999/HyperX_Blue_8GB_(2_x_4GB)_DDR3-1600_(PC3-12800)_CL_10_Desktop_Memory_Module

http://www.microcenter.com/product/373900/Hyper_212_EVO_Universal_CPU_Cooler

http://www.microcenter.com/product/399210/Barracuda_7200_1TB_SATA_60Gb-s_35_Internal_Hard_Drive_ST1000DM003_-_Bare_Drive

http://www.microcenter.com/product/435012/Corsair_CX_Series_CX600M_600_Watt_ATX_Modular_Power_Supply_Refurbished

http://www.microcenter.com/product/434177/Core_i5-4690K_35GHz_LGA_1150_Boxed_Processor

http://www.microcenter.com/product/415795/DK2108S_Keyboard_with_Black_Switch

It should be about 960$ if I didn't fail. For the rest you can get Windows.

EDIT:

You could go with this RAM: http://www.microcenter.com/product/420378/Vengeance_Pro_Series_8GB_DDR3-2133_(PC3-17000)_C11_Desktop_Memory_Kit_(Two_4GB_Memory_Modules)

Would be 10 bucks more, but would be faster and fit the colour scheme.

Oh and I just noticed I chose a refurbished PSU?!?

Don't take that. Get this one: http://www.microcenter.com/product/425475/CS_Series_CS550M_550_Watt_ATX_Power_Supply

That would be 1020$ with everything (including the faster RAM, not counting the mail-in rebate).
