I already have case and a hdd. I'm going to use the build for gaming, internet, and some photoshop. Please give me suggestion for $800USD build without case and hdd.

Case I'm using is Fractal Design Define R4.

Define R4 | MSI Z87 G45 | i5-4670k | R7 265 | Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB DDR3 1600 | Corsair TX650M | Asus PB287Q

I would buy something like this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Z4qn

8 core is nice for photoshop and isn't bad for gaming! 7870 gets you 4 free games and has a really good value. You may want to get 16GB ram, it really depends on how big your photoshop projects are. H100 may be overkill. H80i or a Noctua NH-D14 will be fine too.

SSD is really nice to have, but you don't need to. You can lose the DVD drive if you don't want one :D

I choose nvidia because he will be doing editing and the cuda core help A LOT

also if you get a 800w thats best, when PSU's are at half load they are most efficient and if hes not overclocking the water cooling is just a bit of a waist.

800w is way overkill. Even a good 500w would idle at under 50% easily.

Cuda cores help with rendering in Adobe premiere and after effects. Photoshop uses opencl and amd gpus support that pretty much as well as nvidia.

A overclocked system with a 8320 and a 7870 need ~250-300W. I don*t know why you think thats 50% of 800W.

OpenCL support is on the way for Adobe, so it's not really that important anymore which gpu you buy

True the cuda will help a bunch, but he did say for gaming. Depends on how much and how heavy his editing is.  if it's not a lot then the 8 core cpu will probably suffice.

If he wants it mainly for gaming, I would go with the AMD card simply for all the games.  That is a decision he has to make though.

CUDA cores for better PS/rendering and get less free games

AMD for more free games and OK ps/rendering

also, if he goes for the CUDA cores on the gpu, he could spend less on the cpu and get a better graphics card. 8 cpu cores wouldn't really be needed in that situation.

If it can mean anything to anybody at any time, it means nothing.

I was mistaken on the photo shop part, i was thinking all around editing

and the pc partpicker even says 399w i know they arent always 100% right but 399-800=401 and when PSU's are at half load they are the most efficient, while it will run on a 500w it wont be efficient and iff he wants to upgrade later he has to get a bigger PSU to.

Never said you were wrong i said that a 800w was a good choice for efficiency and upgradability. i didnt even put a 800w on mine i just said it would be an option that he should consider.and i dont really appreciate you saying i know nothing. that was not needed and was very rude. for a 26 year old you would think you would have better things to do than sit on your computer and start calling a 16 year old dumb.

Joel and Andi - I remind you of one of the Core Values of the CoC:

"Be excellent to each other" - Bill and Ted

Please watch your language and tone!

FYI - For PSU's depending on the rating, most need to run a 85% load for peak efficiency. That's typically the sweet spot. For Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, this will change a bit, so just pay attention to the values...

Second - if using PhotoShop primarily - go AMD, if using Adobe - go NVidia. Either will do well gaming when it comes down to it. Just get a decent, single GPU solution.

Get a SSD boot drive.

Little late to the party, but here: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZgXu

Fit a FX-8320, 7870, 12GB RAM, a 120GB SSD and a 1 TB HDD for $750.

  • I didn't know if you needed an optical drive, so I left it out, they only run around $20 anyways. :p
  • This list is based on the assumption that you already have the case.

Here you go: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZijZ

Photoshop uses opencl and is not reliant on cuda cores so the 7950 will be excellent.

Here you go: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZwlS

  • 64GB SSD as boot drive.
  • 1TB HDD for mass storage.
  • 12GB RAM for Photoshop.
  • FX-8320 and a HD 7950, should be able to play most games on ultra with good FPS.
  • PSU is 550W while the requirement is 446W, you might want to look at a 600W or 650W if you plan on overclocking or adding anything else.

Came in at $794.
