PWM Splitter Question

I have noticed some PWM splitters have dedicated power, while others don't. Why is this?

 

Can you daisy chain 2 PWM splitters or is that just a bad idea?

 

I was wondering if I could just daisy chain 2 of these and have 9 fans all connected to the same header.

What the splitter you have there does is take the power via the molex connector and use only the 4 pin to control the speed of the fans, personally thought I'd use one of these since it's nice and compact without all the wires going astray.

The PWM splitters with dedicated power have it, so that it can accommodate lot's of fans. One 4-pin motherboard header can only supply power to so many fans, so in these cases you'd need to use more fan headers or a fan splitter that grabs power directly from your PSU.
