Recently moved from Tiscali/TalkTalk to Sky Broadband. Used to get around 40ms ping, 5Mbps down and 0.80Mbps up and it wasn't stable either, kept dropping off all the time. Now with sky which is a 12 month contract i was hoping it would get better... Nope, now getting this:

55ms ping, 2.58Mbps down and 0.56Mbps up. This is when nothing is using the internet.

This is sky broadband unlimited, not fibre. I was quoted to get 7 - 14 Mbps down and its not even close. Sky have a fibre optic option to upgrade to should i maybe go for it and see how that turns out. Im confident that it is a limitation to the line. My mate went for BT infinity which is fibre and they fitted new cable into his house, now he gets 22Mbps down and 14 Mbps up. Before he was only getting 1 - 2 Mbps down and nothing much better for up.

I run Ethernet from my PC to the router, i also have a home server connected via Ethernet cable to a network card on my PC which it then bridged to connect.

Recently fitted a new phone socket as well because i thought that was causing the problem.

looks to me as there might be something wrong on your end, cables/router etc because drops usualy mean that packets are being sent but not all of them being delivered at the end. do some testing :P

Edit: just came to mind that not all ISP's are the same and most will scr3w you over. multiple times.
