Difference between PCIe Slots Help

Go to solution Solved by dragoon20005,

PCI-E 3.0 x8 speeds is like PCI-E 2.0 X16

not much drop

in SLi the PCI-E 16 lanes will be split to x8/x8

Wassup Göys,

I was just curious about the difference between PCIe x16 and PCIe x8 speeds.

I have my GTX 780 Ti slotted in a PCIe x16. But if I moved it to the x8, will I see drastic performance drops?

Or if I SLI'd with two 780 Ti's (I don't think I am though! :P ), will I have FPS drops? Or any other consequences?

Thanks,

Quentin.

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

It would barely make any difference, perhaps a couple of % if the card somehow exceeds the bandwitdh at 8x

SLI is perfectly fine, both cards will run at x8, you would not get any FPS drops

8x runs at half the bandwidth of 16x but if it's a 3.0 slot you won't see any performance drop.

So in the future I could stick another card in and have good performance! (I have good airflow and a big case so...)

Thanks once again!
