Fiio E10/debian/pulseaudio/alsa audio trouble

Go to solution Solved by UselessBread,

The Problem seems to have been resolved by plugging the E10 into a different USB port. This makes absolutely no sense to me, but whatever, it works.

I am using a FiiO E10 (a USB DAC/amp) for my audio. On my Debian 7.6 install the audio was fine for a long time.

Today after a reboot audio broke, cause unknown.

After lot's of bashing head against the keyboard and reinstalling alsa and pulse I did something magical causing the front panel audio to work, but after a while of use on that it started to fail again. restarting pulseaudio made that work again. E10 still not working

The E10 was once recognized as an output by pulse, but did not actually play any sound then. The other times pavucontrol shows the E10 as an input only which it isn't.

Please help me, I've completely run out of ideas on how to fix this, and google isn't helping me either anymore.

help me...

I'm not sure that this will help anyone any more than your experience, but I made an account to say thanks. I had the exact same problem and the exact same solution.

I spent a lot of time trying to fix it by reading about and mucking around with config files. Then I read your post and tried plugging it into a front USB port instead. It worked but it seems like a pretty unsatisfactory conclusion.

I did read of someone who had success using alsaconfig and manually selecting output for the device. But that was from 2011 and it seems like alsaconfig isn't included in alsa-utils any more. I'm not sure what the deal is there and whether the final alsaconfig build remains useful for current alsa.

Anyway, that's all the help I can offer anyone reading this.
