android newbie, tell me all i need to know

ok so i just bought a moto g, finally upgrading my shitty huawei WP8 though i liked windows phone i had to change because the hardware is trash plus it never got updates to newer versions nvm 8.1, also the app support is really a disappointment, leaving that aside, what do i need to about android in general, like must have apps or recommendation, im already downloading a bunch like steam and twitter and stuff i had back in wp8 that is on android, i'm open to anything expect rooting because is brand new and is moto so is almost pure android which is freaking fast on this thing despite its price :D also since this thing lacks microsd which app i can use to connect my thumb drive on it?

Download juice defender. It made my nexus 4's battery life useable. I swear by it. 

 

Also install nova launcher and dashclock.

Check out ES File Explorer, it supports USB sticks and it's nice.

 

EDIT: There is also something that I usually do on my phone, go under dev options and switch both animation scales (window and transition) to 0.5x. It makes animations quicker, so it feels snappier.

also what android benchmarks are out there i'm planning to make an in depth review of this thing later to post it in the forum

Apperantly USB OTG used to work out of the box before the 4.2.2 but the update did to that what it did to MicroSD and cut that functionality off. You will now need an app for that.

 

There is this one but it is paid so might want to look into another one.

well i cant figure out how to get under dev options in settings :/ i'm really new to this os

Go to about phone, and there should be a kernel version thing, click on it many times and it enables dev options.

thanks, also is it normal that play store takes forever to start a download because i'm downloading the explorer you recommended and it keep saying downloading without doing nothing?

It's not normal. Try cancel it, close the Play store completly (i.e.: also close it under recent apps), and try again. Also, make sure you have good wi-fi reception, as that caused the same problem to me.

that fixed it though is still downloading way to slow even for my shitty 256KB's connection is like on 56k
