I would be sketchy with the PSU if you don't know more than the wattage.

I would. Is it 80+ certified? What's the efficiency, if you know?

I just found out why i didn't know, it is in a metal cage in the pc, so i would need to do significant work to look at it (the case is an hp from 2009)

If the PSU is 5 years old I'd say time for a replacement regardless.

What is your budget to upgrade?

under $300 (passably slightly higher if psu is added, but idk if i will do that), you can only change the cpu, mobo, or ram, i am keeping the case and i hope the components are mostly black but can have some blue.

By "a few years" I just assumed more than 2. :P

Really though, the PSU is the last thing you want to skimp on. I wouldn't be happy having an old, generic, warranty-expired PSU in an otherwise new system, but it's your call.

Yeah, I had a 400W generic PSU in my gaming system when I was 7. The consequence? It fried my GPU, CPU, and 3 hard drives.

With that budget those upgrades are fine
