My new rig!

Go to solution Solved by AMaleWhale,

Ok thanks everybody, and yes intel product naming is werid, but still better than apple's... But yeah, expect a build log in august some time with this build, and I'll probably add the D15, since color scheme isn't a problem really since the case is windowless. cheers!

So I'm going to build a new rig, and I'm looking for some feedback on the parts I have chosen. This is way under my budget of about 9000 swedish kr=aproximately 1300$ US, so there is room for improvement. On top of the parts listed below I'll be adding an HD7970 and my corsair CX750M and a few HDD's since I already have those. I'm not putting a new graphics card in since I want to wait for the next line of GPU's, and The 7970 still handles everything I throw at it without even sweating...

Also if anyone could recomend a nice silent CPU cooler i'd be very grateful. I'll be picking up all the parts when I come home from my vacation in august, so if there's something I should wait for that is released around that time please tell me :D Do you think this is a balanced build? I didn't invest in a super high en motherboard since I felt it's kindof a waste since I'm not an overclocker using all of that VRM super heatsink futuristic explosionproof transistor stuff. I do plan on overclocking a bit, but probably not beyond 5 GHz. And also, is it worth it investing in things like sound cards and fan controllers? Thanks in advance!

The only thing I would add to that build is a CPU cooler. the Noctua NH-D14 or Noctua NH-D15 are both very silent and high performance coolers. Their colour scheme isn't the greatest so you might want to replace the two fans it comes with if looks are a big deal to you but otherwise they are amazing coolers.

My Current Build:

Why would he get a last gen i7 when he can get the current gen i7 for around the same price?

what? I thought the 4790k was just an extreme version of the 4xxx series?

No, the extreme versions are the 4930K and 4960X. The 4790K is just the most recent unlocked i7 from Intel. The 4770K was released with the Haswell series and the 4790K was released with the Devil's Canyon series. They are essentially the same CPU except the 4790K is more designed for Z97 motherboards while the 4770K is more designed for Z87 boards. Also the 4790K is a bit better for overclocking since overclocking on Haswell was kind of a disappointment.

My Current Build:

Intel i5 3570K @ 4.4GHz 1.11V, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, Asrock Z77 Extreme4, Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600MHz, Samsung 840 EVO 250GB, Asus GTX 760 DCII Overclocked, Corsair CX600M

Why 7970?

The OP already owns the 7970 so there is not point of him buying a new GPU since the 7970 is still a fairly recent and a very powerful GPU.

No problem :) Intel's product naming isn't the greatest and it's easy to get confused :P don't worry.

Ok thanks everybody, and yes intel product naming is werid, but still better than apple's... But yeah, expect a build log in august some time with this build, and I'll probably add the D15, since color scheme isn't a problem really since the case is windowless. cheers!
