Ok so I've been searching for a good gaming headset to go with my new computer. I was thinking about the corsair vengeance 2100 but I've started to hear about how gaming headsets audio is completly worthless and how greatly superior non gaming headphones are. So i wonder, how big really is the difference, and if it is a "butchery of sound" as i have heard it being called, wich headphones should i get for around the same price?

Just as a side-note. I'd stay away from the "audiophile" Headsets out there from the likes of Sennheiser and Audio-technica. They're charging a hefty premium just for the addition of a microphone, with mediocre cans.

Superlux headphones are better than most headsets, and they're pretty cheap. Pioneer SE-A1000 should be about $60, HD518 for $80ush.

with mediocre cans.

Yes? In the world of Audiophile headphones, the cans on headsets like the Sennheiser PC 350/360's aren't anything special. Not for the money anyway.

comparing $ for $ headphones to headsets is like comparing a 1967 VW to a 2013 porsche,  sure more people like the coolness of owning a 1967 vw but wouldn't you rather the comfort and speed of the porsche?

They kind of are if we have to consider how much of a step-up they are in comparison to their main competition (Razer and co.).

lol world of audiophiles. Sounds like hell warmed over.

Sennheiser PC lineup mostly uses the same driver as the "audyafeel" HD 5xx series, which is basically a baby version of the driver in the "even more awdyahfheal" HD 6xx series.
