So what GPU should I buy if gaming at 1080p? I'm having serious trouble with this, I'm between an R9 290 or GTX 770. I want to max out all game son ultra with Anti Aliasing on and at least 60fps.
I hear both will be fine for it, but want a few last opinions on it. Most of the benchmarks I see are at like 2560 or 1440p.
For example: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2014/06/02/pny_gtx_770_xlr8_oc2_video_card_review/7#.U8kEevldXFk

Dont get an asus cooler, once again they messed up the vram cooling, the gpu will be fine but the other parts of the pcb will be overheating big time. Anyways the 290 is notably more powerful then the 770 however the 770 has better bang for buck and the 280x has even better bang for buck. Yeah no need for a 290 at 1080p, crysis 3 is great but you arent gonna play it for too long.

First budget? 2nd if they bench at around 50-60fps at 1440p then you'll get more than that at 1080p Either of them cards though will play most games at 60fps+ at 1080p. My 2GB ASUS 770 works just fine for everything I play, for example LoL 200+ FPS, BF4 about 80FPS, PS2 is like 40fps though but that game runs terrible on anything.

The R9 290 is the AMD counterpart to the 780, so it will easily beat the 770. You'll probably get a lot of recommendations for the Sapphire Tri-X R9 290.

Budget is $400. I was looking at the EVGA 4gb 700 or Sapphire R9 290 Tri X.

With either card can I play at Ultra with AA on?

You should be able to. If they're the same price there's little reason to go with the 770.

How are the AMD drivers? And I hear they get really, really hot.

The heat shouldn't be a big issue with the Tri-X, it has a great cooler. The AMD drivers are fine.

Again, the ones that got 'really, really hot' were the reference R9 290/290X, I ran two in CF mode before going for a custom loop, they were hot alright. The non-reference model R9 290/290X run much cooler compared to the reference ones, but be aware that you should have a case with good airflow to vent/exhaust the heated air that the non-reference cards vent within the case (this applies to both AMD and nVidia cards). Especially important if you're thinking going two way CF/SLi with non-reference cards.

If you want anti aliasing on then forget about 770, its just not fast enough, hell I don't even get 60fps with titanfall max settings 4xmsaa on. 770 is for those peoples who are on a 1080p 60hz monitor, but if you are on 120-144hz monitor like benq xl2420z then 770 is not going to take the full advantage of the monitor. surely the 770 will max out all games at 1080p BUT without AA and only 60fps, it will run games like crysis 3 on high no AA at 60-80fps, witcher ultra no aa 40-60, watchdogs 30-50, metro lastlight max settings 20-45, battlefield 4 55-80fps, LOL, Diablo3, Starcraft2 and any other old games will run like 100+fps. decide for yourself if you want AAA titles at higher than 60fps then u need  something like 780, 780ti,290,290x (290 is the cheapest, so 290<290x<780<780ti). the 290 doesn't even cost much more than the 770 (£75more) but it will out perform the 770, 780 by miles.

Well since you are playing on a TV I would suspect a 770 would be fine. You'll get more performance out of the 290 but you'll miss out of the "features" that Nvidia offers and in my experience AMD has more driver issues. Personally I would recommend a 770 unless you plan to get a higher end display. You can even find some used at a decent price online and shoot for SLI in the future.

If your on LCD tv then the 770,280x will do the job just fine. its up to you and your budget, the 770 is a great card.

Yes Gigabyte is a good card though for that price I rather get the Vapour X model from sapphire, if not the the Tri -x from sapphire i probably the cheapest out there (at least it is the cheapest in the uk).
