I'm planning on getting an r9 270x from asus and I don't know if I should be getting a 2 or 4 gb model, imma be playing at 1600 x 900 or so res, how much VRAM should I get for gta v

VRAM is frame buffer, where rendered frames are stored before being output to the monitor. That's why the GDDR5 needs to be so fast in it. For 1600*900 you don't even really need 2GB, let alone 4GB.

Get the 2GB version and save some dough.

Is 2gb still good for full 1080p?

Depends on the game, badly optimized Watch Dogs likes 3GB for Ultra...  If you are buying a card for GTA 5 thought, just WAIT for system requirements (offical ones) and maybe you will grab new 800 series from Nvidia. Who knows :)

Dont know where this website got the release date for 07.11.2014 but I am pretty sure GTA 5 will not be released for another 2 months at least.

At that resolution you're just fine. I'm pretty sure that you can max out almost every game and get 50+ FPS.

For 1080p 2GB is fine depending the games you play, some games are needing more VRAM at 1080p so you will have to lower visual settings to not run out of VRAM at 1080p

I would wait a little longer for system spec but 2 gb of vram will be fine for 1080p, let alone 900p, gtav is rumored to get mantle so i would even wait a little longer, save for a 280(x)

True that.

4GB VRAM only if there is enough "horse power" to make use of it. 270x is not one of them unfortunately. And cards (medium-high end) do have the VRAM they need.

The only one where a higher memory model would make sense is the 780 ti imo.

Edit: Oh right, that's the Titan Black where they make you pay $300 more for 3GB of memory.... absolutely absurd.
