it's a hard drive so I would say no, but to speed things up you can look at what programs start when you pc boots and disable unwanted programs or services

i tried this, my mates wd blue boots in 20 secs though and opens programs right away

My Setup :P

really turn off any stupid services that you don't need, but as Linus said in one of his videos a old OS boots slower on a hdd than ssd and it gets slower that more it has to do

Most Blacks are not actually that much faster than blues in real world situations anyway, you only really notice when copying files to/from and dealing with larger files and video playback. If your drive is older than your friends, it will potentially be much slower than a blue depending on the age.

1. Check your startup using ccleaner or run msconfig. Get rid of anything you dont want to start.

2. Run WD Diagnostics to make sure the drive is in good shape.

3. Check to be sure you have enough RAM (if you for some reason only have 2GB, you may need to upgrade).

4. Turn off AAM (google it). This is disabled on blacks by default anyway, but just check.

This is about all you can do before getting an SSD.

Google the services and startup items to find out what they do, it's totally dependent on your computer and its different per computer what is on there.

Try this? and also 45 sec for bootup is in my opinion within normal speed... Care to share your specs? (starting up depends on CPU and RAM and OS also...) an fast ssd and optimized windows will still use around 6 - 9 seconds to bootup (you can open programs and etc...) so... 4x slower isnt that slow...

PLEASE QUOTE OR TAG (WITH @) ME IF YOU REALLY REALLY REALLY WANT ME TO REPLY!!!!!!!

Also if your issue is solved don't forget to mark the thread as solved!

Hmm yea shouldnt be any problem in spec wise... how full is the drive? HDD gets A LOT slower when it's near full (80% full and you will notices the differences) and if its not the problem then I don't really know... And I would like to say it again... 45 sec isn't bad... if you really want to shave off the times there then its SSD (makes the whole world different)

45 seconds is faster than what I get on 7 even on a clean drive.
