Hello today I recieved my order of single Kingston Hyper X Fury 4gb 1333 ram from newegg. This is to upgrade(add onto) my dual channel G. Skill RipJaw X 4gb ram. I installed the new ram and booted my pc up, I went into my bios and everything seems fine. I've checked the installed  memory it shows the 8gbs, so I restarted and started booting up windows 7. After the booting animation the pc shows a blue screen, it is a quick one then automatically restarts the pc. I've checked to see if the ram is damaged and that doesnt seem to be the case.

Im not sure what is causing this issue, but Im wondering if it has to do with the difference in the CAS Latency?

Some help would be nice  :) Thank You

As far as I know, all your modules have to have the exact same timings and capacity (per module) in order to add more modules.  Your "exact ram" link is broken.

Mixing and matching is generally not recommended.

don't use it in dual channel mode, if i'm not mistaken you need two(2) identical RAM sticks for it to work, so put one in the blue and one in the black slot of your motherboard, disable dual channel in bios if there's an option for that

They have different timings, so make sure they are set to the same in the BIOS.

I believe that the channel mode is automatically detected by the motherboard (it looks at how many slots are populated), so you can't change a setting.

Can you give us the specific part numbers?

Also, check to see if your computer will boot with only the Kingston memory module in place (remove the GSkill).

Yes it is automatically detected by the mobo, also i tested only with kingston it works fine boots into windows and everything.

Part Numbers:

Kingston: HX313C9FW/4

G. Skill: F3-10666CL7D-4GBXH

The latency for the ripjaws is 7-7-7-21 and the kingston is 9-9-9.  Does your bios allow you to program separate latencies for different ram slots (expecting the answer "no")?

You could try setting the latency to 9-9-9 in the bios to see if it will boot (you will be underclocking your ripjaws doing this).

Otherwise, you have purchased incompatible memory, and you should return the kingston DIMM, instead buying another module set of the GSkill memory (of the EXACT same part #).

I tried it and gets to login screen but when i log on it seems to have the bsod again. I will be returning this and buying a g. skill ripjaw x. Just wondering if i do buy a Single G. Skill Ripjaw 4gb (same model just not dual) would it work?, and not run into issues like this?

it should work perfectly fine yes. If you you have 4 slots of memory put one stick in slot 2 and one stock in slot 4.

Edit: Just checked your MOtherboard. Put the memory in the black slots.

So i would put the dual channel on 2&4 (black ones) then put the single 4gb in one of the blue? (Sorry about the questions)

You will have one dual channel pair and one single channel dimm.  Not sure how that will affect your performace, if at all.

Most mobos will even timings. I have two mismatch sticks of ram in Dual Channel mode right now and my PC runs fine no issues it sounds like a faulty stick or just two sticks that don't get a long well together

My bios had options to link the timings or put it as two diffrent ones for the 2 channels (so like 1channel would be one pair of sticks) but it doesnt seem to work. I thought this would work :3 Also i know its not faulty because ive tested it on its own works fine boots windows. Still unsure of the issue but most likely going to return it.

they might not like each other or maybe your mobo is just too old to run different sticks? idk what the issue is I'm running 1x 2gb G.Skill ECO and 1x4GB Crucial ballistix and I have no issue my mobo automatically adjusted the timeing for me and it works just fine

My motherboard isnt to to old about 2years and still works fine. And yeah they might just not like each other. Also my motherboard detects these sticks fine (8gb total)

ok so just return the HyperX stick and get a matching stick for your G.Skill
