Mafia 2 crashing

so i when chapter 2 cutscene ends and they are on the car to go to the city.. the game crashes. my specs  

 

i7 2600

 

650ti boost 2 gig

 

8 gigs ram 

 

windows 8 pro.

 

first it was some phyX problem then i deleted the physx file so the game installs its own. now its this problem. i saw a message pop up once and it said that direct x 9 was not installed properly. then i went to install it but microsoft doesnt let you install it on windows 8. then i ran it in win7 compatibility and it doesnt work. does anyone have any fixes to this problem

Space Journal #1: So Apparently i  was dropped on the moon like i'm a mars rover, in a matter of hours i have found the transformers on the dark side of the moon. Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

What are the chances of this eh, I'm literally just dealing with the same shit in Mafia 2, verify game cache in steam downloaded some files and fixed it for me.

 

I'm on W7 BTW but just doing a game cache verification from the steam properties for the game fixed my issue so I'd try that first.

What are the chances of this eh, I'm literally just dealing with the same shit in Mafia 2, verify game cache in steam downloaded some files and fixed it for me.

 

I'm on W7 BTW but just doing a game cache verification from the steam properties for the game fixed my issue so I'd try that first.

im trying to do a lets play of it. and right before the game crashed i was like "you know PC gaming does offer huge benefits (as i changed my key bindings) a console would never let you change the button lay out to how you would want it. but there are some dark sides to pc gaming" and BAM game crash lol.

When I first played it through, in 14 hours I experienced no issues, now I'm playing it again and I've experienced a couple of bugs.

 

Currently I have this issue where you have to lockpick a car, as you drive away the game gets stuck in slow motion you have no idea how irritating lol, I'm going to reinstall the game now and see if that helps, I still have the same PC as when I played it the first time so IDK what's up. :wacko:

i might have that same problem later on who knows. btw do you know if a dx9 game works on dx11. it told me to install dx9 once

 

It will run on DX9 unless it supports 11, your PC will have all the redists of DX on it if you are a Steam user, Steam normally loads the exact redist for each game when you install it to ensure smooth running.

 

You can't just set a DX9 game to run on another version, it has to use the version it was written in, some games can use more than one API.

Once you get the issues worked out it's actually a really good game with a good story, I don't play many games twice but I'm playing this again after playing it for the first time  a few months ago.

yea. i was looking for steam forums. but never found one with my direct issue. and i hope it is a good game i played mafia 1 when i was 7.

try updating to latest nvidia drivers and install nvidia physx

I know this is an old topic but I started playing mafia 2 today and had that exact same crash.I looked around and learned about the issue with physics and didn't even bother downloading any update for physics and just shut it off in the video settings and no crash hopw this helps anyone
