Overclocking

Go to solution Solved by Builder,

my motherboard has a program that comes with it called over clock genie... would it find the best performance for me?

It might. You're better off learning how to overclock manually, but first of all you really need an aftermarket cooler.

Will all the components in my build be able to handle overclocking?

Should I overclock?

Get an aftermarket cooler like the Hyper 212 Evo or H80i if you're going upmarket.

After that, yes, you should overclock.

Would it be ok to overclock without the cooler... at all? because the cpu has a fan and i have three case fans.

I wouldn't recommend it. To be honest I don't have any experience with AMD overclocking but it's generally a bad idea with Intel chips.

@S7117

Yes but you need an aftermarket cooler. Get a 270 like this instead of the 270x (they're the same thing) and get a Cooler Master 212 EVO.

Nah, spend about 20 dollars more and buy a R9 280. Put an OC on it and it will perform right with most stock clock R9 280Xs.

Can't beat that combo IMO.

Yeah but if the budget is the budget, might be I dunno, then it's better to save money and go with a 270 and get a good after market cooler.

20 dollars is well worth the performance increase that you will see from the R9 280.

I know 20 here and 20 here adds up but if he can find 50 dollars some where then I would put a 212 and R9 280 on that list.

budget is kind of tight.... im already going to be spending close to 1000 dollars on this build.... which i know is relatively cheap for what im going to be getting.... i have had to deal with a 1.87 ghz cpu for forever and im tired of it.
