I was looking at the patch notes of the latest Catalyst drivers and they only say the 290X performs better. http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/latest-catalyst-windows-beta.aspx

Is it only the 290X? Or does it apply both to the 290 and 290X.

Maybe the guy just want's to play Plants vs zombies at 3840x2160 with better scaling on his 290...

They're exactly the same chip, but the 290X is overclocked.

They're exactly the same chip, but the 290X is overclocked.

But they both have different BIOS and stream processors.

There were some other Catalyst patches earlier that said the same thing about BF4 performances or something. I just grabbed the latest patch notes pour example.

They're exactly the same chip, but the 290X is overclocked.

AMD 290 has 2560 stream processors

AMD 290x full hawaii chip has 2816 stream processors

its not only an overclock

Ah, thanks for the clarification.  But you can essentially get the 290X's performance by overclocking a 290.

Eh, idk, but do you really need that many stream processors anyways?
