Playable during download

When the new game Last of Us is available digitally on June 14, players will be able to start playing it once the download reaches 50%. Pretty cool hah?! This is very useful feature for people like me who are too impatient to wait the whole download. It seems that the aging PS3 has some unrevealed potential.

this is on pc for a while but yeah its cool to play the game while it downloads

I didn't know this feature existed not-bad-obama_reasonably_small.png

 

I look forward to playing the first level of a game whilst the 2nd and following levels download in the background, neat idea!

This isn't a new feature I used to play WoW a while back and you could play that while the game was downloading.

WoW is a PC game. And yes, Steam has offered this feature for some games but the post is about PS3.

Sorry if my English is not perfect, but it isn't my native language :)

I wonder how they do that... does the game engine download first and then all the levels download in sequential order? Like what if you tried to play the last level or something obscure before it finished?

It'll be pretty cool to see how they have it work out. Hopefully there won't be any issues and this is actually quite smart considering the fact that people take awhile to get through half of the game. They should bring this feature to the PC

The first time i encountered this was with world of warcraft :) but it should not be an issue from a programming aspect to implement into (especially) a linear single player game.
