I would create a budget that allows for a NH-D14 to be purchased. It is just that good IMO.

Fellow LTT "ers".....

 

Guess this is an age old question....what is the best cooler for the 6300 in terms of price and performance.  Budget would be in the 50 dollar bracket.  I built my son his first rig and used the CM Seidon 120M.  Let's just be diplomatic and say that I am disappointed in this offering from CM (yep...checked TIM and re-positioned to ensure proper seating).  I have used their products in the past and this is not one of their best in terms of the price/performance factor IMO.

 

Specs are as follows:

 

Corsair 200R modified (Fan mounts on side panel were removed in lieu of window...actually really easy mod...my son loves it)

AMD FX 6300 CPU @ 3.8 (currently)

Gigabyte 990FX UD3 Rev.4 Mobo (really decent board...now that they took care of that pesky VRM issue on the first three revisions)

Kingston Fury Hyper X Ram 8GB (2x4)

Gigabyte R9 270x GPU x1

Seasonic 850W Modular PSU (I know, overkill but came from another build)

Side note:::Currently, he has three case fans, all Corsair flavor AF 120s...two for exhaust at top and one intake in front minus drive cage....radiator is using the SP 120 (single)::::was going to throw another in at the bottom as intake, but do not want to disrupt flow from front to back...

 

 

I know that the Hyper 212 has been quoted many times and I agree that it is a decent cooler....but I was looking for something else to compare.  The case dictates that a 160mm high cooler can fit, but with the mount on some coolers, this does get taken down a small amount.  Any suggestions would be helpful and as always appreciated....thanks.

 

Also, apologies if answering questions and/or comments is not done with quickness, but I will be on the road working and will check in around nightfall....thanks again....
