Soundcard Options

I want a good 7.1 sound card. I love great audio but am the farthest thing from an audiophile so my price range is around $100 and to fit with my rig try to keep to red and/or black sound cards. Try not to break my wallet to much (that's Gaben's job) and thanks to anyone who leaves a suggestion. :)

Normally, the most frequent response will be "Get whichever Xonar card that fits in your budget". That's what I'll also be saying, however, due to my obnoxious habit for aesthetics, go with this:

It does go slightly over-budget, but it'll look great in your system.

The other option is this:

I was just giving the answer that he wanted. It's up to him whether he wants to get one or not. Hopefully he'll stick to onboard or save up for a dedicated amp and dac.

Not with those headphones, spending money on anything for those headphones would be more then wasteful.

You probably shouldn't tell him what he wants because then no1 will learn. You shouldn't be steering people in the wrong direction even if they won't like what we have to say.

OP: Both sound cards and that headset you mentioned are both wastes of money. Now if you want some real recommendations then we can give you some but unless you are open to the things we recommend, it is really no use posting in here.

To the Peripherals subbie.

Best if you just ignore threads like this, buddy.

I know, but I think I might be mostly masochistic.

Just use onboard, and don't use the Razers unless you hate money.

Thank you for completely ignoring the description and missing the point of the post. To run full 7.1 audio its best to get a dedicated sound card. I like money and I like Razers I considered Sennheisers and audio technica options for gaming but they where a little over budget.

Ok if you followed the description thank you. If you did not READ IT. I don't care about your opinions on what headphones I should buy. What I do care about is you opinions on what SOUNDCARD I should buy. I must say I'm tired of people going of topic. Stick to the title and description and if you cant don't comment. It's quite simple really.

Thanks I'll probably go with this one. When I get my Sennheisers this should really enhance the experience as well with the Razer headphones for gaming. :)

If that is the case, your better off buying a dedicated amp and dac compared to a sound card. Something like the Objective2+ODAC is soo much better than any sound card on the market. But if you still wish to go with it, then do so.

I think Heathcliff's comment is right on the spot. Not because it's good, but because it's what OP want to hear anyway....

- I'm going to an office job interview, what hat goes best with my Hawaii shirt?

- No, no, no, you should wear a tie to a job interview, not a hat. And wear a proper formal suit, not a Hawaiian shirt.

- Did you not listen? I'm asking about hats. No comments on my shirt.

- In that case, whichever hat you want *you're gonna F yourself up in the interview anyway*....

I don't think you understand I know this is not the best headset for audio on the market. It is however a good surround sound headset and in order to get surround sound on it I need da sound card. :)
