Is Far Cry Worth it?

I know that 3 has nothing to do with the others but I'm not sure about 1 and 2.

Yes. It is worth it.

 

I started with Far Cry 2 because of the Summer Sales. I instantly loved it.

 

I wouldn't know about needing all the games as I only own FC2, but I do believe they are all separate stories with different characters so I think you should be good with just one of them.

Eh, well I like it. I don't mind the Malaria thing, I think it fits with the game and theme. It might be a while before I get FC3, too.  :lol:

3 is set on some random pacific island and 4 is going to be set in the Himalayas so no, not at all :)

I think none of the Far Cry games have anything to do with each other besides sharing a title like the Final Fantasy series. It hasn't been stated yet, but unless a game is said to continue on or be connected in some way, then no, it's a sequel, but not one that continues the story. For all we know, Far Cry 3's and 4's stories could be happening at the same time.
