So as my GTX480's 4th birthday is creeping up I decided to retire it and get a replacement.

The new one will be used for 1440p gaming as well as 3D animation in 3DS Max / Maya and probably also rendering with vray / iray.

AMD is already out of the game due to bad experiences in the past and I also want it to have less power consumption than the 480/AMDs. So team green it is ... but I have no idea which one will be sufficient. I am looking more into a normal 780 3GB or 6GB due to the lower price point. (Is 3GB enough for 3D animation? Sometimes I already hit the limit of 1.5GB of the 480)

Or would a Ti be better (price/performance)?

+1 this is the best 780 available.

I would go for the 6Gb though

$89 more for 6GB of memory.
