Now, I know that the 780ti is better than the regular 3gb version of the 780. I am looking to buy the Asus Direct CUii 780ti, but I have recently noticed that EVGA has released a 6gb version of the 780. I will be playing on a single 1080p monitor running at 144Hz. I really want to be able to play all of my games at the absolute maximum settings. I am guessing that I will not need the 6 gig frame buffer since I am just playing at 1920x1080. In my case, would there be any performance difference in between the two cards? Thanks!

at 1080, a single 780ti will do everything you need it to, and a single 780 3gb will also perform up to par, you won't see any benefit of the extra 3gb on a single card solution at 1080.

however, if you planned on SLI later, and/or running higher resolutions, the 780 6gb would be something to consider if a titan black or sli 780ti are out of your budget. (SLi 6gb 780s will perform very very well for a cost about the same as a single Titan Black, which for gamers is essentially a 6gb 780 ti.)

You don't need 6GB of VRAM for 1080p gaming. The 780 Ti is a better. Something to consider is that if you SLI two 780 Ti's, you'll still only have 3GB of VRAM. If you plan on SLI'ing later, and maybe even want to run at 4K, it may be worthwhile to choose the 6GB 780. This way, if you ever SLI two 6GB 780's, you'll still have 6GB of VRAM compared to 3GB which will help with the high resolution display.

The 780TI is a better performer overall, closer to the Titan.

^^ kinda..

in gaming: 780ti=Titan BLACK>780=Titan.

I understand its just semantics and specificalities, but there is a difference between the Titan and the Titan black, exactly like there is a difference between the 780 and the 780 ti.

The Titan is a 780 with 6gb of VRAM and extra computing capabilities.

The Titan Black is a 780 ti with 6gb of VRAM and extra computing capabilities.

The 780 6gb is a Titan without the extra computing capabilies.

There is sadly no 780ti 6gb without the extra computing capabilities. (so far.. the only one that was announced has been cancelled)

At 1080p, 780Ti >/= 780 > Titan Black >/= Titan in terms of price to performance ratio.

At 1080p, no single graphics card will run everything at maximum at 144 FPS consistently. I'd personally pick a 780 over a 780Ti, just because the performance of a 780 at 1080p is already plenty. At 1440p however, I'd pick a 780Ti.

Probably more like 780 > 780Ti > Titan Black > Titan for price to performance.

Also, do you mean a 780Ti for 144Hz, not 1440p? He didn't mention 1440p...

Yeah, probably more like that.

Nope, I just mentioned 1440p in passing because that's where I see the extra power of a 780Ti yielding some benefit. A 780Ti will not run everything at maximum at 144Hz at 1080p. It will manage a few games like Bioshock Infinite, but stuff like Crysis 3, etc., nope. What I meant to say was a 780Ti doesn't make much sense at 1080p (to me, personally). It doesn't have enough power to manage 144 FPS for every game which is what the OP would want with that monitor, so why spend the extra when a 780 provides plenty of performance anyway?

I overclocked an ASUS GTX780 and performs the same as a non-oc'd 780ti...

I agree that it's not necessary for 1080p, but only at 60Hz. It will get over 60FPS in pretty much everything, so it makes sense if he's going with a higher refresh rate. There are several games that the 780 won't get 60FPS in, so I would say the 780Ti is worth the money in this case.

Agreed. If 60FPS consistently is the goal, then 780Ti is the OP's best bet.

Go with the ASUS GTX 780Ti DCUII http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HSY1RVC. I agree with what the majority of everyone else is saying, with your refresh rate you will need the horsepower to push the frames.

I currently have the VG248QE running with the card I mentioned and play in 3D on ultra settings in anything I play. The setup works great.
