Hi Guys, i'll explain the situation:

I've currently got a 5 year-old WD Green 640Gb, which is strating to fill up (20Gb left) I've made two partitions on it, a 120Gb and a 520Gb so it would be easyer to eventually move to SSD

Is it best to prevent failure and data loss to get a 2Tb barracuda or shouldn't i worry about failure and get a 120Gb HyperX 3k to liberate 120Gb on my drive

Thanks for your tips :)

No.. One's a fragile ticking time bomb that can stop working for whatever random reason and the other you can chuck like a basketball just fine.

Hi noxunited, instead of choosing between SSD and HDD, why not have both? Have you heard about WD Black²? If you are no constricted in term of budget, I strongly recommend it. For your information, WD Black² is a storage that packed with SSD and HDD. It has a capacity of 120GB for SSD and 1TB of HDD. It also come with Acronis True Image WD Edition (for Window OS only) to assist you cloning the whole drive which you want to erase and make your life easier. However, the best part is, it has a warranty for 5 years to ease your anxiety for any drive failure.

Here is additional information regarding WD Black² for your reference : http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=1190.

Hope this sort you out.

This is something for a laptop which is space constrained. It's not made for a desktop PC and isn't cost effective. Buying a SSD and a hdd is cheaper than a Black2. Your plan is ok but weak. Even with the SSD you will be wanting more space very soon. I would budget for both a SSD and hdd. Right now, if you can stretch it, try for a 256 gb SSD like a MX100 for $110. That should get you some serious breathing space for when you can change your Green to the Cuda.

Sir William of Orange: Corsair 230T - Rebel Orange, 4690K, GA-97X SOC, 16gb Dom Plats 1866C9,  2 MX100 256gb, Seagate 2tb Desktop, EVGA Supernova 750-G2, Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3, DK 9008 keyboard, Pioneer BR drive. Yeah, on board graphics - deal with it!
