I have been using the same membrane keyboard for the past ten years and I keep hearing how good MX blue keyboards are is it worth the switch and what would be a decent priced one to get with the number pad also for around 100 to 150 bucks. I don't game hardcore on it but I would say every other day I game on it.

I would reccommend you get a Cherry MX Brown keyboard. Cherry MX Blues may get annoying due to the sound and will annoy other people. They also don't go well with recording/streaming and stuff.

I use a Razer Blackwidow Tournament Edition and I LOVE it. Its small, fast for typing and has an amazing build quality. If you get it try and find the mx Blue version not the new Razer switches. Here the link to a few other that I would recommend:

1. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823129012&cm_re=cherry_mx_blue-_-23-129-012-_-Product

2. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823816021&cm_re=cherry_mx_blue-_-23-816-021-_-Product

These where the ones I considered when I was shopping closest to your price range. Hope this helps. :)

I personally prefer browns to blues, if you can make sure to try them beforehand. Also, for 100-150, you can get pretty much any mechanical keyboard. I've only had the Ducky Shine 3 and it's amazing minus the lack of dedicated media keys (they only have volume control through the function key). Solid as it can get, great keyboard

Well I do feel mechanical keyboards are a good investment to people who use their keyboards for long periods of time, it's more comfortable and satisfying, it just feels better :P

Blues are awesome, they're my personal favorites but I know not everyone likes the noise they make. That video of sound comparisons will give you a good idea of what to expect from each switch. Personally I find the sound of blue switches with O-rings to be extremely nice, it's not as loud as people make it to be (I've heard/used louder membrane keyboards) and it helps you know (and feel) when the to stop pressing down on the key.

Might be worth trying some switches first if you get the chance :)
