Hello everyone!

I wanted to ask an honest question to all of you.  When did you start to hear the terms "Hardcore" and "Casual" when describing gaming habits?  I've been a gamer since the 80's and I do not ever remember hearing those terms used to describe gaming culture.  I can remember that the terms "hardcore" and "casual" started to become prevalent in the gaming media/culture right around the time the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii were released.  So I wanted to ask a part of the gaming community if they have every heard the terms used.  And if so, do you use those terms to describe yourself or others?  Also if you use it to describe others, why?

I know this can be a weird and maybe controversial topic to have in any gaming forum.  I want an honest opinion of what you feel the terms mean to you and if perhaps you may know how the terms came into existence. There is no right or wrong answer.  And since I want honest opinions.

For me 'Hardcore' gaming is like proper sweating your tits off on BF4 trying to get to max rank, setting your self goals to reach a certain rank within a certain time, getting a party of people to go on win streaks and stuff?. And 'casual' is more like playing with friends for fun, having fun and not taking it to serious?

"Hardcore Gaming" i remmember hering in the Mid 2006~7when Computer hardware really started evolving and delivering brut Performance in Gaming Plus the Gamer Him Self Beeing someone who take Gaming seriously and Can Kick ass at it, also it's used that much in shooter Games like BF an Crysis and that kind of Hard Games where you really have to be Good at it to enjoy it, and your Rig has to be Tough enough to handle it Maxed, hardCore is a term used to discribe something or some one with the ability and the Power to Do what he/it does at it's Peak, while Casual is just some one who Game or do what ever at a Standard Level, not big of a deal, and i use it on my self, on my Profile discribtion, I, Am a Hardcore Gamer

Casual gamers: People who don't indicate in ETS2

EDIT: Oh, wait...Console.

I don't know if Console can have hardcore gamers..
