I don't think people would DDOS you unless you were higher up in an important company.

I was likely a Layer 7 DoS attack not a DDoS and changing your modem won't help because it's new but because your getting a new public IP which you can call your ISP explain your situation and they should give you a new IP also what were you even doing to get a DoS attack.

asus routers allow you to selectively route devices through certain VPN's

anything free though is bound to suck.

So route your game console through a VPN to mask your real IP...OR don't piss off the script kiddies on COD

That makes no sense as they can just give you a new static or dynamic (whatever you have) IP but it is AT&T and they're idiotic so whatever I guess as it's free. You can use a VPN on your PC and avoid attacks.

PIA (private internet access) I believe it's $30 a year or you could just be very careful of whom your playing against.

Pro sc2 player Destiny did quite a detailed article about some of the ways you can protect yourself from DDOS attacks. Him being such a prominent streamer requires him to have protection against such attacks. Do take a look http://blog.destiny.gg/protection-from-ddos-attacks/

What?

Do you know what caused the DOS in the first place? DOS can be accidental through shitty software and even microwaves if you're using wireless. Changing your modem won't fix it if it is an application issue.

personally I've experienced DOS attacks from using Steam Voice Chat and being in a Counter Strike server with some admin who gave my IP to some guy. Also Skype also opens you up to attacks.

If your home router is configured to receive an IP from your ISP with DHCP just disconnect and reconnect your WAN/modem link and you have a new IP.

UPNP also opens you up for DOS but Im not sure how those work.

Also if the attacker DOS'd the VPN IP wouldn't that achieve the same results? then a VPN would be useless.
