Is 850W Enough?

Go to solution Solved by JuztBe,

It;s overkill. You can get lower watage one for sure.

Hi,

Is a Cooler Master V850 PSU enough for these components?

CPU: AMD FX-9590

GPU: AMD R9 290X

MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3

SSHD: Seagate 2TB SSHD

RAM 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3

OPTICAL: Pioneer Blu-Ray Burner

I'm not going to do any overclocking.

I've looked at the PSU threads but I just want to make sure that I am safe!

Thanks for any help! :)

You could squeeze a Crossfire of 290Xs in there.

He would be needing closer to 1000w for CF trust me...

Yeah i guess it would be too tight. That's where GTX 780 SLI can shine. :P

Not really, still would want more then 850w. The cou is recommended at 220w on it's own.

I'm actually rocking 780Ti SLI on my 760W PSU.

Yeah but I'm guessing you have an intel cpu without any ocing?

if you ever are planning on crossfire it's not enough , if you are sure you never going to have 2 gpu's then you could get something like a 700W range

I7 3930K @4.4 GHz  /  Asus rampage 4 formula  / 4x 8gb kingston hyperx blue low profile / gtx 980  / 2x ssd 500gb samsung 840 / 500gb 840evo ssd   /  500 GB WD blue /  windows 7 ultimate

Just by looking at Linus' recent build guide, i am very confident to run 780 SLI from a quality 750W PSU. However even i myself want some headroom, i am currently searching for a 1000W PSU. :D

who cares...

Thanks for your help guys! I really appreciate it! I am going to stick with the V850 for future headroom.

Yep, but I'd recommend you re-evaluate your choice of CPU if you haven't bought it yet :P

I have re-evaluated it. I'm still going with AMD for value. I will be going with an FX-8350. When games are able to use more cores, AMD will shine... I'm Not an AMD fan-boy though! I considered Intel, but when I saw the price tag... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I've currently got an 850W on a rig that's basically the same spec but with Nvidia stuff. It is quite overkill, but it's nice to have the wattage headway for a second GPU or additional drives in the future.

Git Gud.

What is your budget for the pc? And what is it used for ? What resolution do you game at, if it is a gaming rig ?
