Ok, just a noob question here but, is it possible to uses different sizes of ram in a pc, but from the same brand?

I am looking at a memory upgrade, right now I have two 4 gig sticks of Adata 1600, and I want to know if I could add in a 16 gig kit (2x8) of the same brand, same speed, same timing. just bigger sticks.

You can and it will probably work without any issues, though it's not really recommended. Might as well try, if you really need those 20gb. If you run into stability issues just stick with the 16gb, which should be plenty for pretty much anything.

You need to trow your others sticks away (put them away). Just put in your 16 GB 2x8gb sticks in your mobo and your golden.

I have the pro version of windows 7 (made sure of that when I bought it). I just don't want to have memory sitting around doing nothing, would I get the same results from just another 2x4 kit?

Just seems like a waste of money to buy 2x8 and then not be able to use my 2x4's as well.

I have the same problem linus mentioned in a recent wan show about having too many browser tabs open. I can easily max out my ram doing this lol.
