Right now I'm having to use an ambidextrous mouse and switch it back and forth. But I'm curious as to whether or not there's a way to have two mice hooked up to my computer, and have the computer recognize one as having a right handed button lay out and the other as having a left handed layout.

Use a gaming mouse that has custom macros so you can rebind the left-right buttons. Two mice will work on the same PC, but they might not if they have to share software.

As others have said, use a mouse that has programmable buttons, and a software that allows multiple profiles (Logitech is a good option for both of these), set one of your buttons to switch profile and have one profile set the way you want for left handed use, and another profile set the way you want for right handed use.

I'd recommend you use the same button on both profiles as the one that switches between them, otherwise things could get confusing.

I think rebinding the buttons on a mouse may be the best option, so now I have to ask, what left handed mice have programmable buttons. I've always used Logitech in the past, but it doesn't look like their ambidextrous mice have programmable buttons. I seem to remember Linus doing a video about an ambidextrous gaming mouse not to long ago, but any input would be appreciated.
