Two Motherboards - Which One?

I'm stuck between two motherboards, the Asus Maximus VI Hero Z87 (185) or the Maximus VII Ranger Z97 (162). I intend on doing heavy overclocking.

The most expensive one that you can afford is the simple answer. Bear in mind that if you want Devil's Canyon on z87, you need a normal Haswell in order to update the BIOS.

Ranger as it has the newer chipset and at a lower cost. I've bought the Ranger VII yesterday and it looks fantastic! I'm sure it will be great for overclocking as it is a high quality motherboard.

yes it does you will need to download the correct bios and save it into a thumbdrive 

 

but if you want the cheapest yet solid board for OC

 

choose other brands, the ROG board is only when you have a lot of money
