Hi there, first time of posting on this forum.

So I am starting to think about a new pc build.  I am considering using  a RAID 0 array for the speed improvements.  However I am wanting to know if I was to choose a z97 motherboard, if I was to use the onboard RAID controller would I see a significant speed improvements by doing this?

My second question is I am wanting to do this on a budget, and wondering whether four of these Sandisk 64GB Pulse SSD would be good, or would it be recommended to get something a bit more expensive.

Possible build specification.

If you are going to install Windows  on the SSD

then no 64 gigs won't be enough Windows expands a lot

and unless you have a solid back up solution

then raid 0 is not recommend you wont see a speed jump

unless you are putting a lot of data through it so just go with a bigger and solid SSD

hope this helps

No, that is not helpful as it's complete nonsense. 64GB is way more than enough to install Windows on. It's not going to triple in file size as it "expands". It won't leave much room to install anything, but it is way more than enough to install Windows on.

This is false, 64GB is more than enough for Windows, even after every updates it should never go above 30GB on a fresh install, then if you disable things like Hibernation(It's really unnecessary on a desktop), reduce/disable pagefile depending on how much ram you have and disable system restore, it can easily go down to under 20GB. Just because you are bad at managing your data doesn't mean that every one is too.

Don't bother raid0 SSD, especially if you don't have a good backup solution. Not to mention, 4x64GB SSD cost more than 2x128GB SSD and 2x128GB cost more than 1x256GB. So if you are on a budget, it's really not ideal

I didn't say 64 isn't enough to install windows

I was saying there won't be much space left to install programs

No, that's not what you said. Here's a quote of what you said, since you obviously forgot already.

You specifically said that it was not enough for Windows and said nothing about other programs.

Currently using an i5 lappy with a Kingston V300 60GB, Windows+User+Default Program Files+Ninite apps on W7 uses 15GB when Hibernation is removed and the pagefile has been tweaked.

Have plenty left for programs, and games of my choosing.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
