as the title says are ROG boards worth it or are you basically just paying for the ROG badge?

Absolutely not unless you need a specific feature that those motherboards have.

Motherboards don't impact performance, its all about what features they come with.

Pick up an Asus Z97-A, it is the same build material and quality, and comes with all of the essential features, and then some.

Exactly.

If you have the money like the features and look go ahead

I like the looks, but if you have a tight budget absolutely not.

at every price point you find a rog mobo you can find a "normal" asus mobo with the same if not slightly better features over all in my opinion. I honestly buy rog mobos just because of the aesthetic look.

the color wouldn't match my build I was just wondering why they have such a big hype about them. I was thinking this mobo when I do switch to Intel

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157521 just because it matches my color scheme.

ROG mobos are the OC - Gaming oriented mobos by ASUS. Unlike other brands who have two distinct lines of product for these purpose such as Gaming and Mpower by MSI and G1 and SOC by Gigabyte. ROG boards have better power delivery and OC friendly tech.

You are paying a lot for the "ROG".

Well that is truly debatable. Not entirely black and white. The recent ROG line Hero & Ranger are exceptionally affordable for gamers by gamers :3....(okay maybe not quite the tag line but I like it)

Before you were capable of getting stuff from ROG that was damn unique and feature length + the expense, and depends whether you as a "pc enthusiast" are willing to get it. ROG product lineage is for both overclocking + gaming which is kinda confusing when you look at it and msi & gigabyte have differentiated between 2 lines for their oc + gaming individually.

Nope not at all and personally don't even like black and red its also way over used in builds the only one that is worth it is the maximus VII Ranger its actually cheaper than some of there other non ROG boards.

Thx for backing me up :D although it wasn't exactly intended :P

I believe affordable parts are for enthusiasts, because they should know where to spend the money, not on a 400 dollar ROG motherboard for LGA 2011 for example.

Well that might be true but it's a little contradictory.

i've been buying ROG motherboards and tried other comparable brand manufacturers

and always end back up to the ROG lineup. others may cost less, but there is a certain

point that cost just can't cover. i have had a couple of RMA on ASUS ROG and many

with other manufacturers and for me the ASUS RMA was hands-down the best. simple

one-way shipping and issues were handled easily and efficiently. other manufacturers

it took two and three times to "repair" same issue RMA claims. from the big three, ASUS

will usually get my business for motherboards. even recently, the G-team and M-team

RMA process was horrible and costly for me. sending items back and forth wasn't

productive nor cheap for me.

yes, they are usually more expensive to use, but i have not had a "new defect" from the

ROG lineup as i have from the others. and continuing support after the chipset is years

old speaks loudly as others seem to wander away from the older as the newer is now

popular and not continuing upgradability for the older chipset.

Once going to asus motherboards i've never looked back really , the features they provide on their mobo's are quite nice and ROG is really just for the aesthetics. Plus the UEFI bios is a charm to use.

I get UEFI bios with a $99 ASrock motherboard as well as fan tuning and other goodies why spend over $100 more for essentially the same board with ASUS and ROG slapped on it? thats the only thing I don't get plus ROG boards don't match my color scheme so I was just wondering why there is such a big hype about them. I do like how they make wattercooling blocks for the VRM I haven't looked into that much though so I don't know if other companies have watercooling blocks for their VRMs as well

no comparo on UEFI navigation. ROG has a better layout, less dressy flash and

more nuts and bolts over the MSI and Gigabyte. dunna know about ASRock, i

dropped them after P67.

seems more boards are mirroring what ASUS/ROG in schemes, UEFI steps

and cooling solutions. MSI and Gigabyte now offer VRM/MOSFET liquid cooling.

so it has got to be what ROG offers that the others are willing to design into their

own products to try and pry sales from ROG.

price point on ROG might be more, as more are willing to make that decision. but

ASUS has a channel board for pretty much all budgets.

I have tried ASUS (not a ROG one) UEFI on AMD and I like the ASrock one a lot better but I guess it's all personal preference

and there you have it. once you have found something that works for yourself

personally, you usually will stick with it. my 990fx-ud3 was pure crap over the

crosshair z in performance and usage. and the MSI offering was useless. it

doesn't take a hammer falling on your toes too many times to find out you do

not like a hammer falling on your toes.

really only thing that caught my eye about the ROG board is it comes with a funny door knob hanger or what ever
