Oh god please help

Go to solution Solved by Vitalius,

There again, I can't get one screw to fit, its either 3 or non, at least for what it seems like unless i Use alot of force

That's what we are saying.

Unscrew all the screws and take them out of the holes.

Put all 4 screws in and slightly screw them all in in an X pattern (Top Right screw, then Bottom Left screw, then Bottom Right screw, then Top Left screw).

Then continue doing that pattern slowly until they are all tightened.

If the 4th screw can't fit still, you need to adjust the holes for the heatsink until it does.

Ok, so I have a little problem. Yesterday I was switching my CPU cooler from stock to CM Hyper 212 EVO (Intel Cpu) and one of the screws wont go into the screw hole that is mounted to the backplate. I have successfully mounted and screwed in the 3 other screws but the last one is too tight to get in, or if I use alot of force, and then I mean alot of force; I can get it to fit properly, but I am too afraid to break something.

I have the cpu cooler working and everything, but I am not sure if I am getting the cooling performance that I am supposed to get. (Stock speed - 30 Celsius at Idle and with boost clock with Prime95 maxiumum heat test - 79 celsius.

If anyone know if I should try to tighten the cooler even more or just let it be like it is then tell me.

Socket : 1150 - Intel Core i5 4670k

did you put the screws in like a spare tire order? like from top right to bottom left to bottom right then finally to top left? if not try it that way and they should all fit!

79 celsius sounds a little hot for a good cpu cooler. What are your voltages at? If it's at stock, something is definitely wrong. It's not really a problem unless at 80-90, but under load you should really be around 65-80 on air.

The main problem with one side not being screwed in is that the cooler won't have a flat surface, and you'll end up with a hotspot. Try a smaller screw?

Also, make sure you tighten all screws in an X formation. If you tighten three down, it can make the last one difficult. Put them all in place, then tighten down from top left, to bottom right, to top right, to bottom left. Tighten a little on each and repeat.

You are supposed to put in all the screws lightly and then tighten them down in a star pattern,

Thats the problem, i could only fit 3 of the screw, the last one wouldnt get into the riser..

on the Backet that the screws are attached to, you can move the screws closer to the center of the heatsink or away to make it fit. do you mind taking pictures? You should unscrew it. you need to start with each one partially in, then tight it down individually.

The screws can be moved in the slots in the hold-down bracket. Maybe one of them is out of place. Also, make sure you're using the backplate that came with the 212 and not something else.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

Ok so I got all of them in, but the bottom of the heat sink doesnt sit right on top of the cpu, though it covers the whole heatsink of the cpu itself

Is it not touching?

It is touching the cpu heatsink ofcourse, all of it, but the cooler's heatsink doesnt sit sort of right on top of it (symetrical) it is sort abit more to the right than to the left.

This doesn't matter as long as the entire CPU IHS is being touched by the Heatsink and there is thermal paste between the two. You are fine. Continue.

That's odd. It seems to me that the screws aren't in the right spot on the hold-down bracket (the adjustable X-shaped thing).

You can move the screws to a different notch in their slots by pulling on them and sliding tmem. Try to find the set of notches that works best for you

You know what guys! I think i god it now. All the screws are in and the heatsink is on top of the cpu (symetrical) i'll tighten them down, hook up the fan an boot.

The temps are actually 10 degrees Celsius lower aswell! Thanks for the help, Much appreciated!

Idle = 27 Celsius

Load (Prime95 Maximum heat) = 66-74 Celsius @ 1.2 Volt (3.8ghz)

You can most likely turn the voltage down to 1.1, or 1.05 volts at stock speeds, it'll drop temps even more
