I am preparing to do a new relatively high end build in the next week or so (i5-4690k and Radeon 7950), but I already have a power supply that I might use. I bought a Corsair CX500 about a month ago to use in a build that I am not going to end up using. I wanted to buy a Cooler Master V750 (considering Crossfire in the future) for this build, but is it worth buying the new power supply and finding another use for the CX500 (I already have place where I could possibly use it), or should I just go ahead and use the CX500 in my build until I'm ready to do Crossfire?

Thanks for your opinions.

The CX500 is an amazing Powersupply and should have no problem running two 7950's as long as they don't have a super high OC with that CPU if the online ratings are correct under full load you would be pulling around 490 watts at stock clocks with two 7950's but usually they will want even less than that if you wanted to be on the save side you could go with the V750 but I don't think it would be needed

I can't crossfire with the CX500 because it only has two PCI Express power connectors, and I don't really want to use molex adapters because I don't really trust them.

then when you do decide to crosfire upgrade to the V750 but the CX500 will work perfectly for now

The CX500 is only capable of outputting 408W-456W depending on which version it is. You are pushing it with a decent 500W psu, nevermind a budget corsair one.

What do you mean which version? Do you mean the semi-modular version and the non-modular version?

If you go for a new PSU, get a good 850W psu, that way if you want to go crossfire with 2 super high end PSUs in 4-5 years, you can do it.

Is 750W not enough to Crossfire/SLI two high end GPUs?

Nope, Dual R9 290X need a little more. That's my suggestion, so you don't have to get a PSU for your main rig ever again.

There was a CX500 '80 plus' version which is now discontinued, and that had 408W output. Seeing as yours is fairly new, then the other Bronze rated units have 456W on the 12V rail. You can run a single 7950 and i5 4690K no problems, but you would need more juice for a crossfire setup.

if you already have plans for the cx500 for another build, why not just get the v750.

although "if" you are going to crossfire is kinda iffy to me. either you are sure you will crossfire or you don't

just get a decent 500-600w for a single 7950 and 4690k, then next time sell off the 7950 and get a better single gpu. (this is what i'd do)

i7-4790k | Asus Z97i-Plus     | Kingston HyperX Fury 16gb | MX100 256gb     | Seidon 120XL | Silverstone SFX 600w Gold | Node 304 White
G3258    | Asus Z97i-Plus     | Kingston HyperX Fury 16gb | 4 x 3TB WD Reds | Seidon 120XL | Silverstone SFX 600w Gold | Node 304 Black

i7-965EE | Rampage II Extreme | Kingston HyperX Fury 16gb | CM M2 700w | Sapphire Nitro 380 4GB
