USB Gone Whack

My usb just went from being read to needing to be formatted and I want to get the files of it as they are important.
Any help?

That's what happens when you unplug it randomly without ejecting properly, you probably corrupted it. You might be able to retrieve the data with some program, it didn't work for me though, mine couldn't even be formatted after, it was just completely dead. So hopefully that's not the case for you

If the usb header was bent or pulled this is what happens, in that case there's nothing you can do save bring it to a specialist and let him recover the date by opening the stick and removing the data cells. Whatever you do, DON'T format it or you will loose any chance of recovery.

This my friends is why I do not ever use usb sticks

Try this:

 

Click on "Start" -->Run --> type cmd and click on OK.

Here I assume your pen drive letter as G:

Enter this command.

attrib -h -r -s /s /d g:\*.*
