TurtleBeach Mic as desktop Mic

Well, I just bought the Audio-Technica ATH-M20's as a replacement for my dead turtle beaches and was wondering if I could just use the mic (which is already removed) as a desktop mic by hooking it up to a standard 3.5mm cable?  The mic is detached and now has only one cable leading out of it.  Just asking cuz I dont wanna mess up a 3.5mm cable for no reason.
